Since you can customize the size of panel, fonts and application buttons and borders you can use KDE on this tablet just with your finger. No mouse or keyboard is needed. So, I found the desktop KDE to be more usable than Unity.

An anonymous reader writes"Modern Linux desktops like Ubuntu's Unity and the GNOME Shell have placed a requirement on OpenGL 2.0+ support for handling their compositing window managers and desktop effects. Wayland's Weston also needs OpenGL ES 2.0 support. Now with modern Linux distributions like Ubuntu 12.10, rather than falling back to a 2D unaccelerated desktop if you don't have a sufficient GPU or graphics driver, users are being forced to run LLVMpipe as a CPU-based software rasterizer. LLVMpipe works fine if you are on a new PC with a fast x86-64 CPU, but the OpenGL-based Linux desktops are causing growing pains for ARM hardware, virtual machines, servers, multi-seat computers, and of course all older hardware.LLVMpipe is a Mesa Gallium3D driver that uses LLVM for run-time code generation as an attempt at accelerating graphics faster on the CPU. So much for Linux being good for old computers?"The KMS based graphics stack is already effectively unusable on AGP systems (if you have SMP + AGP, there are race conditions somewhere leading to really hard crashes that appeared a couple of years ago and dozens of years old open bugs with no resolution other than "use PCI mode" which cuts bus bandwidth by 4 or 8 times, and still doesn't work with SMP), but for those with older PCIe/IGP systems you could always runs Window Maker, Sawfish, Enlightenment, Open Box, or one of many other window managers without a compositor. Of course then you lose compositing, and there aren't any usable external compositors for some reason. The flipside to this is that moving to OpenGL as the primary interface to the GPU means one fewer driver that has to be written, and will probably lead to an overall improved experience for those with supported hardware given the limited resources Free Software drivers authors have.

In New York City, new introductory programming courses that lead to immediate job opportunities - even for candidates with no previous experience - are helping to fill the local shortage of engineers and fuel the city's technology boom. General Assembly, Codecademy and the Hatchery have designed introductory programming courses for computer science novices hopeful of changing careers to the tech sector. For the New York tech sector, the classes are a way to help fill the local shortage of engineers while the city works on longer-term solutions to build a talent pipeline for new tech start-ups. As experts point out, if New York is going to have a sustainable tech sector, it is has to be able to produce more homegrown tech talent.

These programming classes could lead to the democratization of coding. The classes offered by private educators draw everyone from Wall Street veterans to bartenders with an entrepreneurial streak. The classes aim to teach anyone and everyone to code. However, completing a class is not the equivalent of getting a computer-science degree. And graduates of classes tailored to the nonprogrammer -- which range anywhere from a single evening to four months in duration -- are unlikely to land a coveted job at a large employer like Google or Facebook. Obviously, you have to have a lot of experience and education to go to those top companies, but there are a lot of regular start-ups all over New York.

The classes are attracting tech-savvy people in transition. These are typically people who lack work experience in the tech sector and who have an undergraduate degree in a non-technical discipline, but are nonetheless familiar with computers. Still, hiring people with only months of training can be risky even for start-ups. The Hatchery, which offers beginner coding classes, is testing out an unusual model: employers hire the firm as needed for projects, while students are paid on a temporary basis for their assistance. People taking these classes hope they will make them more attractive job candidates. Skeptics of beginners' abilities should note that students in a Hatchery class won a recent hackathon, or product-building competition, in a battle against full-time developers.

A Regular Expression contains one or more of the following:

• A character set. These are the characters retaining their literal meaning. The simplest type of Regular Expression consists only of a character set, with no metacharacters.

  An anchor. These designate (anchor) the position in the line of text that the RE is to match. For example, ^, and $ are anchors.
• Modifiers. These expand or narrow (modify) the range of text the RE is to match. Modifiers include the asterisk, brackets, and the backslash.

The main uses for Regular Expressions (REs) are text searches and string manipulation. An RE matches a single character or a set of characters -- a string or a part of a string.
