MySQL was once the most popular open source database (it still is), but it's declining under the leadership of Oracle. The founder of MySQL Michael Widenius "Monty" founded MariaDB, an open source database, which is gaining popularity lately. It's not only become the default database of the leading open source operating systems, but is also replacing MySQL at WikiMedia and other major organizations and companies. Recently SkySQL merged with MariaDB's parent company Monty Program Ab, increasing its developer force.

Now there's a rumor that Amazon is aiming at adding a 10-inch Kindle Fire to its offerings. All you KDE fans, your favorite programming language Python is now also supported in KDevelop IDE.

Packaged apps now available in Chrome Web Store

Chrome users can have enhanced experience with what Google calls the packaged apps which are now available throuh the Chrome Web Store. Google had announced the developer preview of Chrome packaged apps and the Chrome App Launcher a few months ago. Google enabled developers to upload their packaged apps to the Chrome Web Store and test them, but there was no way for users to find those apps an install them.
